About the CAT exam

The main entrance for MBA/PGP programmes at the IIMs and hundreds of top B-schools across India.

Eligibility

  • Qualification: Bachelor's degree with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/PwD); final-year students are eligible.
  • No age limit.

Exam pattern & selection

  1. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)
    Reading comprehension and verbal ability — about 24 questions.
  2. Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
    DI sets and logical-reasoning puzzles — about 22 questions.
  3. Quantitative Aptitude (QA)
    Arithmetic, algebra, geometry and number-based problems — about 22 questions.

Selection: Computer-based test (≈2 hours). The CAT percentile is used by IIMs and B-schools for shortlisting, followed by WAT/GD and Personal Interview.
